Regional safeguarding

The third sector is supported by local, regional and national safeguarding structures.

Local County Voluntary Councils offer safeguarding information, advice and development services underpinned by local knowledge of specialist agencies and access to training. They also have a role working in partnership with their regional safeguarding boards.

Regional safeguarding boards across Wales: Six Safeguarding Children Boards and six Safeguarding Adults Boards - to protect and prevent children and adults at risk from abuse and neglect.

National Independent Safeguarding Board has been established to:

  • provide support and advice to safeguarding boards with a view to ensuring that they are effective
  • report on the adequacy and effectiveness of arrangements to safeguard children and adults in Wales
  • make recommendations to the Welsh Ministers as to how those arrangements could be improved.

Welsh Government Safeguarding takes the lead for safeguarding but this is supported across the Welsh Government, as demonstrated by the item below.
